Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let it sit until frothy.
- Combine melted butter and beaten egg in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture.
- Mix flour, salt, and cinnamon in another bowl, then gradually add to the wet mixture.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a cloth for about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon on the rolled-out dough, adding optional fillings.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Let the knots rise in a greased baking dish for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Check the temperature of the milk to ensure it activates the yeast properly.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic for the best texture.
- Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free area.
- Keep an eye on the baking time to prevent over-browning.
