Description

A delightful dessert that combines the tartness of cranberries with the creamy sweetness of orange, creating a flavor explosion in every bite.

Ingredients

  • Cranberries: 2 cups, fresh or frozen, for that tart flavor.
  • Sugar: 1/2 cup, to sweeten the cranberry mixture.
  • Orange Juice: 1 cup, for a zesty kick.
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp, to enhance the flavors.
  • Cream Cheese: 1 package (8 oz), softened for a creamy layer.
  • Powdered Sugar: 1 cup, to sweeten the cream cheese.
  • Whipped Cream: 1 cup, plus extra for topping, to add lightness.
  • Ladyfinger Cookies: 1 package (10 oz), for a delightful texture.
  • Orange Zest: Zest of 1 orange, for an aromatic finish.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves: Optional, for garnish and a pop of color.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cranberry mixture by placing cranberries, sugar, and orange juice in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until cranberries burst and mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Allow to cool completely.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until fluffy. Gently fold in whipped cream.
  3. Assemble the trifle by layering ladyfinger cookies, cranberry mixture, and cream cheese mixture in a trifle dish or individual cups. Finish with whipped cream and orange zest on top.
  4. Chill the assembled trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh cranberries for the best flavor, but frozen cranberries are a good alternative.
  • Adjust sweetness of the cranberry mixture to taste.
  • For gluten-free options, substitute ladyfinger cookies with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Can be prepared ahead of time; store layers separately if desired.
